  1. The school of thought that can be applied to the article “Building a Mystery: Alternative Research Writing and the Academic Art of Seeking” is applied ethics. Applied ethics refers to the philosophical examination from a moral point of view of a particular issue that could be either private or a public matter. Thus applied ethics suggest that one should identify methods that should be morally correct and must be applied in each and every aspect of human life. The writers can directly apply this to the research writing because the field of research requires honesty, integrity and commitment. The article talks about the alternative forms of research writing that displace those of modernism are unfolded with “multi-writing” which now incorporates multiple genres, disciplines, cultures and media to gather modern forms. Although the field of research writing has also experienced a dramatic shift over years but ethics has remained an integral part of research writing.
The principles of applied ethics are applicable to this article because this article has identified the issue of plagiarism that is considered as one of the greatest form of academic dishonesty. Plagiarism is condemned on all forums of academic writing. The article suggested that research writing teaches us valuable skills and encourage us to commit to the academic ideals of inquiry and evidentiary reasons. However, sometimes it happens that people commit academic dishonesty either to get good grades or to research to the next level of education by using someone else’s work. In an original piece of research writing, students show high level of commitment towards their work and come up with high quality research papers. The author has discussed the principles of creating research writing and how trends in research writing have been changed over year. However, the principles of applied ethics were applicable in the past and still prevail in academic research writing.
